Texas Tech needed to upgrade the firepower among its pass catchers after struggling to produce big plays last season. That's exactly what McGuire has done.
Josh Kelly had nearly 1,000 yards last year at Washington State and he averaged over 15 yards per catch. Meanwhile, Caleb Douglas averaged over 17 yards per catch in 2022 at Fresno State before injuries held him to just five games for Florida last season.
In the slot, all eyes will be on Micah Hudson. The highest-ranked player to ever sign with Texas Tech out of high school, he will likely start inside where it is easier for young players to get their feet wet but he could bounce outside on occasion as well. Also, Tech must find ways to get lightning-fast Drae McCray more involved as a receiver this year.
At tight end, the additions of Jalin Conyers and Johncarlos Miller make the room as athletic as it has ever been. What's more, a healthy Mason Tharp could help the Tech tight ends finally be a weapon for the first time in over a decade.
