For Texas Tech, it is still Tahj time at running back
Position | Player |
---|---|
RB1 | Tahj Brooks |
RB2 | Cam'Ron Valdez |
RB3 | Cameron Dickey |
The Red Raiders have no question who the lead running back will be in 2024. But there are still questions about the depth behind starter Tahj Brooks.
After briefly entering the portal, Cam'Ron Valdez returns and gets a slight nod as the backup. He's an upperclassman so he'd likely be who Tech turns to first to spell Brooks. However, Valdez has to be more consistent than he has been so far if he wants to be a regular part of the offense in 2024.
Nipping at Valdez's heels is true freshman Cameron Dickey. An early enrollee who went through the spring, Dickey already has the size and the speed to contribute this fall. Don't be surprised if he passes up Valdez for the RB2 job sometime in 2024.
Regardless of whether is it Valdez or Dickey, someone has to take some of the burden off of Brooks' shoulders. It wouldn't be wise for Tech to ask him to run the ball nearly 300 times in 2024 as he did a season ago.
