Texas Tech is filling a ton of holes in the secondary
Position | Player |
---|---|
Corner | Bralyn Lux |
Corner | Maurion Horn |
Strong Safety | CJ Baskerville |
Free Safety | Chapman Lewis |
Star | Brenden Jordan |
Reserves | Jalon Peoples, Marcus Ramon-Edwards, Jordan Sanford, A.J. McCarty |
The bad news in the secondary is that there are a ton of starters and key figures from 2023 to replace. That includes corners Rayshad Williams and Malik Dunlap, as well as safeties Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and Tyler Owens.
The good news is that there is a lot of talent to work with for Joey McGuire and defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter. In fact, this might be the deepest young crop of defensive backs this program has boasted in a decade.
The pieces that are available have flexibility, as well. Thus, few roles seem cemented at this point.
Keep an eye on Brenden Jordan, specifically. Last year, he impressed as a true freshman making 20 tackles as a backup safety. He plays with intelligence and a knack for knowing where to be, something that is rare in such young players. He could be the next standout safety for the Red Raiders.
