The transfer portal is quickly filling Texas Tech needs

McGuire and his staff continued to stay hot on the recruiting trail during their bowl game preparation. A few weeks ago, the program hosted a number of players in the transfer portal from division one and JUCO programs. Since hosting those visits, the team has landed several receivers and offensive lineman. Those are two of the biggest needs they needed to address during portal season.

With several key contributors transferring out before the bowl game such as Myles Price, Jerand Bradley, Monroe Mills, and Landon Peterson, the staff needed to find some experience to fill those holes. Landing former Sun Devil and West Texas native Jalin Conyers was big but also landing former Florida Gator Caleb Douglas and Washington State Cougar Josh Kelly gives this offense some big weapons for Morton going into 2024.

Davion Carter and Vinny Scuiry are two offensive linemen with experience who can start right away. That is more good news for Morton to keep him healthy and for Brooks, who is coming back for one more season. Micah Hudson and Will Hammond might be the prizes of this recruiting class, but both will still need to develop in the next few years. Overall this offense looks like it will not lose a step going into next season and will actually be far better than it was in 2023.
