To say that Texas Tech football fans needed a blowout win by their team was an understatement. When they got that on Saturday, they enjoyed themselves.

Texas Tech football fans needed to see their team not only play better in week three but also look like a dominant squad. With Big 12 play on the horizon next week, folks in Scarlet and Black needed to be reassured that the Red Raiders are capable of taking out some frustrations on a weaker team.

That's what happened in Lubbock on Saturday in the form of a 66-21 victory over North Texas. It was the first stress-free weekend of the season for Texas Tech fans and the first time in 2024 that the fanbase actually left a game feeling good about the Red Raiders.

Previously, a one-point overtime win over FCS opponent Abilene Christian and an ugly road loss to Washington State has been the only datapoints on the season. As a result, the mood around Raiderland was rather sour heading into the North Texas game.

What's more, many fans were afraid that North Texas might pull off the upset in Lubbock. After all, that program had twice come into Jones Stadium and upset the Red Raiders in the modern era including once in 1997 when the Mean Green was a 30-point underdog and once in 1988 when North Texas wasn't even a Division-I program.

What's more, there was familiar storyline to be followed in this game, It seems as if Tech always struggles to put away teams with plenty of connections to Lubbock, West Texas, or the university itself. It's as if players and coaches with ties to Texas Tech come to Lubbock with a chip on their shoulder determined to prove that they have been overlooked or insulted by the school or the region they used to call home.

North Texas fit that profile perfectly. Their head coach, Eric Morris, played receiver for the Red Raiders under Mike Leach and was part of the magical 2008 team. What's more, his team featured a number of players who had either begun their careers at Texas Tech or called West Texas home.

Thankfully, UNT proved to be little more than a bug to Texas Tech's windshield. The Red Raiders finally put together the type of effort on both sides of the ball that we've been looking for and it resulted in a laughable victory, especially in the second quarter when Tech scored 35 points.

So as you might expect, Tech fans took to social media to rejoice in their team's performance. Here are some of the best posts from Saturday's blowout win.
