Washington

0-2-0

Washington has long been a program that has garnered national respect. However, Tech has faced the Huskies only twice in its history. Back in 1981, the teams met in Lubbock, a 14-7 Washington win. The year after that, they met in Seattle with the Huskies taking home a 10-3 win.

Team

USC

0-3-0

Most fans remember Texas Tech's ill-fated Cotton Bowl game against a dominant USC team back in 1995. With Tech making its Cotton Bowl debut, the Trojans had no problems with the Red Raiders in a 55-14 drubbing. However, that series began back in 1978 when Tech traveled to Los Angeles and fell 17-9. In 1979, the teams met in Lubbock with USC taking a 21-7 win back home.

Team

Record

Oregon

0-3-0

The Red Raiders almost put an end to their losing streak against Oregon this past fall but fell short 38-31 in Lubbock. Previously, the teams had not met since 1992, a 16-13 Ducks win in Eugene, Oregon. The year prior, Tech dropped a 28-13 decision on their home field in the first meeting between the two programs.

Team

Penn State

0-1-0

In 1995, Texas tech nearly stunned Penn State in Happy Valley. That year, Tech opened the year against the team that finished second in the nation the previous season.

Led by Byron Hanspard, the Red Raiders took a 23-21 lead late in the fourth quarter on a field goal, However, the Nittany Lions would answer with a late FG of their own for the win. Still, Texas Tech shocked many people around the nation after entering the game as a three-touchdown underdog.

Team

Record

Ohio State

0-2-0

Texas Tech has twice tangled with Ohio State. In 1990, the Buckeyes took home a 17-10 win in Columbus. In 2002, the Red Raiders ran into a buzzsaw freshman running back named Maurice Clarett who ran wild in a 45-21 week-one win in Columbus. Of course, that year, Ohio State would go undefeated on its way to the National Championship.

Team

Record

Iowa

0-2-0

Both times Texas Tech and Iowa have met, it's been in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. Unfortunately, each has resulted in a Red Raider loss. In 1996, the Hawkeyes shut out the Red Raiders 27-0 and in 2001, they picked up a 19-16 win.
