Texas Tech baseball takes first Big 12 series of the year

After dropping the first two Big 12 series of the year, the Texas Tech baseball team desperately needed to win a conference set this past weekend and that's what happened. At Dan Law Field, the Red Raiders took down BYU two games to one.

Thursday night, Tech dropped the opener 8-5. Starter Mac Heuer took the loss to drop to 2-2 on the year after tossing 5.0 innings and giving up four earned runs while striking out eight.

Friday night, the Red Raiders rebounded in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 walk-off win. After giving up a pair of two-out runs to BYU in the top of the ninth to tie the game, the Red Raiders got a single from freshman Landon Stripling to drive home Dylan Maxcey for the win.

Saturday, things were far less dramatic as Tech clobbered the Cougars 10-1. Starter Jack Washburn tossed 4.0 innings allowing only one earned run while reliever Jacob Rogers pitched 3.0 innings of shutout baseball to pick up the win.

Tech now sits at 17-7 on the season but at 4-5 in Big 12 play, there remains work for Tim Tadlock's team to do this season. The Red Raiders return to action Tuesday against Stephen F. Austin before resuming Big 12 action this weekend in Orlando against UCF.

Pop Isaacs played 2023-24 season injured

Following the Texas Tech basketball team's 80-67 loss to NC State on Thursday, we learned that sophomore guard Pop Isaacs has been playing with a serious injury. According to his father, Richard, who shared the information on X, Isaacs played with a hip labrum that was "shredded the entire year".

That is a serious injury that can take up to nine months to fully recover from. Despite that injury, Isaacs averaged 15.8 points per game and earned third-team All-Big 12 honors. That was a testament to his toughness and desire to win. Certainly, playing through this injury wasn't easy for Isaacs who deserves a ton of credit for performing as well as he did despite the torn labrum.

Former Texas Tech baseball player Clayton Beeter makes NY Yankees Opening Day roster

Clayton Beeter has been one of the best minor-league pitchers in baseball for a while now. The former Red Raider starter is now going to get his shot in the big leagues as he has made the opening-day roster for the New York Yankees.

The righty will be in the NY bullpen as a long man. This spring, he pitched 17 innings allowing a 3.18 ERA and striking out 17 hitters.

Texas Tech softball has series canceled due to weather

The weekend was quiet for the Texas Tech softball team thanks to mother nature. That's because inclement weather forced the Red Raiders' three-game series at Iowa State to be canceled. Without a mid-week game this week, the Red Raiders will have to wait until Thursday to play again when they host UCF. That means the team will have an 11-day break between games.
