Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks will play today vs. North Texas
Today, the Texas Tech football team will welcome back star running back Tahj Brooks. The senior missed last week's game at Washington State but he will return to action this morning against North Texas.
Without Brooks, the Red Raider ground game was paltry a week ago. Backup running backs Cam'Ron Valdez and Cam Dickey managed only 59 yards between them on 13 carries.
Of course, Tech's ground game was taken out of the equation in Pullman, Washington when the Cougars jumped out to a double-digit halftime lead forcing the Red Raiders to try to throw the ball to get back into the game. However, that didn't happen as Texas Tech QB Behren Morton had one of the worst games of his career in the 37-16 loss.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said this week that he felt that Morton's decision-making was influenced by Brooks' absence. He said that the QB likely made some changes at the line of scrimmage that he wouldn't have made if Brooks would have been next to him in the backfield.
Of course, Brooks is Tech's best offensive player. Last year, he racked up over 1,500 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. That left him just over 1,100 yards shy of the Red Raiders' all-time career rushing record.
In the season opener, he got off to a great start putting up 153 yards and a TD in the overtime victory over Abilene Christian. However, he didn't show any signs of being injured in that game, he showed up on last week's injury report on Monday and wasn't able to play against the Cougars despite going through portions of Texas Tech's pregame warmups.
Fortunately, he is back in the lineup today for the Red Raiders. That will be a huge story to follow as the Red Raiders look to get back on track against UNT.
