Texas Tech is undefeated against these independent programs

Navy Midshipmen (1-0-0)
UMass Minutemen (1-0-0)

In the 2003 Houston Bowl, the Red Raiders took down Navy 38-14 in the final game at Tech for QB B.J. Symons and receiver Wes Welker. It is the only time the two programs have met.

Similarly, Tech has faced UMass only once. In 2008, the teams met in Lubbock, a 56-14 Red Raider win.

Mountain West Conference

Colorado State Rams (2-0-0)
Fresno State Bulldogs (1-0-0)
Nevada Wolf Pack (2-0-0)
Utah State Aggies (2-0-0)

There are four Mountain West programs that Tech is undefeated against. In 1968, Tech beat Colorado State 43-13 in Lubbock and in 1987, it was a 33-24 Red Raider home win against the Rams.

The only time Tech faced Fresno State, the game ended with a 34-28 win in Lubbock. Things were close the last time the Red Raiders faced Nevada, as well. In 2011, the Red Raiders had to score a TD in the final minute of the 4th quarter for a 34-33 win in Lubbock. The only time Tech has been to Reno, Harrell and Crabtree helped engineer a 35-19 win that was tight throughout.

Texas Tech will unfortunately always be linked with Utah State because of the failed hiring of former Utah State head coach Matt Wells to replace Kliff Kingsbury as Red Raider head coach. The two programs have met twice on the field as well, including when Wells was a backup QB with the Aggies in 1996, a 58-20 win in Lubbock. The programs also met in Lubbock in 2000, a 38-16 Red Raider win.
