The top five basketball transfers entering the Big 12 in 2024-25
To say that Kansas State went all-in to land Illinois transfer big man Coleman Hawkins might be an understatement. After all, the Wildcats signed the coveted transfer to a lucrative $2 million N.I.L. deal.
It isn't hard to understand why KSU went so far to land this impact center. After all, productive big men are tough to come by in the college game.
Last season, Hawkins averaged 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. It was by far his best season as a collegiate as, in his fourth year of college hoops, he had his best statistical output to date and helped Illinois reach the Elite 8.
For those who believe that Tech has gone heavy in the transfer market, consider that K-State has brought in eight transfers thus far. However, that was to be expected after the Wildcats missed the NCAA Tournament in Jerome Tang's second season in charge.
Of course, in his first year, KSU made it all the way to the Elite 8. Thus, this past season's 19-15 record had to be a huge disappointment in Manhattan, Kansas.
Hawkins leads the KSU rebuild as the best player Tang has added this year. He's battled tested with 126 career games played at Illinois and now he's ready to try his hand in the Big 12.
