Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley pulled off one of the offseason's biggest surprises by luring 5-star high school signee Jayden Quaintance to Tempe after he decommitted from Kentucky. The 6-foot-9 forward is the No. 8 player in the nation and he will be the player all of the Sun Devils' hopes are pinned on next season.
Were it not for that recruiting coup, many might be picking ASU to finish last in the conference. The Devils were just 14-18 this past season including just an 8-12 mark in conference action.
ASU has seen six players from that team enter the portal. To make up the talent gap, Hurley is bringing in four freshmen but youth movements rarely work in the Big 12 so it could be another long season for his program.
