This Texas Tech team needs a playmaker on the wing

Though the returns of Darrion Williams and Devan Cambridge give the Red Raiders two quality players on the wing, it would be ideal if McCasland could add another playmaker at that spot. That's where teams can never have too many athletes.

As a sophomore, Williams earned third-team all-conference honors this past season. He averaged 11.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and by the end of the season, he was Tech's best all-around player.

Cambridge is another story though. He played only eight games before a severe knee injury cost him the rest of the season. Now, it is fair to question whether or not he will be at 100% when next season tips off.

If Tech was going to be assured that Cambridge would be at full strength to start 2024-25, then the need for another wing wouldn't be as great. However, as it stands, the team doesn't have the luxury of counting on that.

Right now, this roster is heavy on guards with Overton and Hawkins joining returnees Chance McMillon and Kerwin Walton. However, Williams and Cambridge are the only wings the team has and that is not enough given Cambridge's health questions. Therefore, don't be surprised to see the Red Raiders target another play-making wing who can potentially start.
