One of the biggest things that people tend to wonder about teams that rely heavily upon transfer portal infusions to beef up their talent level is the impact that it might have on team culture and the interactions that players have with one another and with their coaches.
During Big 12 media days, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire noted that the Red Raiders were able to go out and get some crucial transfer players who helped not only improve the talent level on the team but also aided in fostering a healthy team culture within the program.
According to McGuire, guys like Lee Hunter have been huge from that standpoint. It’s not just about going out and getting great players on the field. Texas Tech’s head coach is apparently also focused on getting the right sort of fit for the entirety of the program.

“We have high expectations just from the standpoint of the level that he can play at and his ability,” McGuire said of Hunter.
And that in and of itself is a great compliment. That said, McGuire wasn’t done pointing out how Hunter has been a huge addition to the Texas Tech football program.
“But I will tell you this, one thing that’s fun coming into work everyday is we knew we brought in some really good football players, but we brought in some great men,” Texas Tech’s head coach said.
That’s something for McGuire to be proud of. And wouldn’t you know it, it sure sounds like he’s proud of that fact.
“That’s been by far the biggest thing that stands out is we have brought in some really good men that have really helped our culture grow and create this team chemistry,” McGuire explained.
