Well, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team may have gotten off to a slow start when facing the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan, but the Red Raiders were able to absolutely run right past K-State to secure a 43-20 road win.
It really feels good to see the Red Raiders get their first win over Kansas State since 2015. It really feels good to see the Red Raiders get their first road win in Manhattan since 2008.
And in some ways, it’s really feeling a lot like 2008. Texas Tech is now 8-1 and the Red Raiders are rolling.
Morton, in his first start back after injury, played an efficient and effective game as he completed 21 of 32 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns. Morton did have an interception, but that’s far from being the end of the world.
J’Koby Williams managed to gain 135 rushing yards and scored a touchdown on the ground on 17 carries. Cameron Dickey complimented him with another 21 carries that turned into 68 rushing yards and another rushing score. Caleb Douglas stood out as Texas Tech’s best receiver in this game as he snagged eight receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

So yeah, Texas Tech may have fallen behind 7-0 in the first quarter, but the Red Raiders were able to win big.
So much of Texas Tech’s success is because the Red Raiders forced and then took advantage of five turnovers from Kansas State. Jacob Rodriguez managed to force two fumbles and Brice Pollock snagged an interception. Add in the 12 tackles for loss in this game and it’s not a shock that the Wildcats really struggled to build momentum in this game.
Texas Tech was able to build a 29-14 lead late in the third quarter and then just held on to get a really impressive 23-point win. Now, all eight of Texas Tech’s wins this season have been by at least 23 points. That, folks, is impressive.
