After terrorizing Big 12 quarterbacks for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Romello Height is headed to the San Francisco 49ers to chase down quarterbacks in the NFL. That's right, the fourth member of the Texas Tech Red Raiders defense that caused so many problems for the Big 12 has been picked up in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Height heard his name said as the 49ers selected him with the No. 70 overall pick. David Bailey was the first Red Raider off the board followed by Jacob Rodriguez who was then subsequently followed by Lee Hunter. Along with Bailey, Rodriguez, and Hunter, Height made his name this past season by just how effective he was in pass rushing.
And Height really was such a good compliment to the way Bailey chased down quarterbacks.
The San Francisco 49ers just drafted Texas Tech’s Romello Height after he terrorized Big 12 quarterbacks during the 2025 season
This season, Height managed to total 38 combined tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and then 10 sacks for 70 yards lost. To go with all of that, Height had 13 quarterback hurries this past season while also forcing a couple of fumbles, recovering a fumble, and then breaking up a pass.

The duo of Height and Bailey combined for 24.5 sacks in 2025. They worked really well together, folks!
Like Lee Hunter, Height technically got his college career started with the Auburn Tigers. After two seasons in the SEC, Height made his way to the USC Trojans for a couple of seasons, then spent a season with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Things really came together for Height in Lubbock as Shiel Wood’s defense took full advantage of his athleticism and allowed him to chase quarterbacks. In his career, Height recorded 111 combined tackles and 27 tackles for loss along with 16.5 sacks. And that serves as a nice reminder that so much of that success happened during his time in Lubbock.
It's going to be fun to see how he can help out the San Francisco 49ers as he moves to the next level of football.
