Right now, if you check the On3 college football recruiting rankings, there’s just one team sitting ahead of Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team. Just one.
Now, these sorts of rankings and things can certainly change essentially just about every day, but the fact that the Red Raiders are recruiting this well right now should be something that Texas Tech football fans note, enjoy, and celebrate (and then continue to help support along the way).
But it really is impressive. With the recent commitment from four-star running back SaRod Baker out of DeSoto, Texas, the Red Raiders now sit with the nation’s No. 2 recruiting class for the 2027 recruiting cycle (according to On3).
Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are recruiting at an elite level and SaRod Baker helped contribute to that
Here’s the top 15 recruiting classes in the country (following SaRod Baker's commitment to the Red Raiders), according to On3’s rankings:
- No. 1: Texas A&M Aggies - 13 commits
- No. 2: Texas Tech Red Raiders - 8 commits
- No. 3: Oklahoma Sooners - 20 commits
- No. 4: USC Trojans - 11 commits
- No. 5: Ohio State Buckeyes - 11 commits
- No. 6: Oregon Ducks - 11 commits
- No. 7: Florida Gators - 10 commits
- No. 8: Notre Dame Fighting Irish - 10 commits
- No. 9: Georgia Bulldogs - 7 commits
- No. 10: LSU Tigers - 4 commits
- No. 11: Miami Hurricanes - 8 commits
- No. 12: Texas Longhorns - 9 commits
- No. 13: Nebraska Cornhuskers - 8 commits
- No. 14: Kentucky Wildcats - 13 commits
- No. 15: Auburn Tigers - 4 commits
There’s a few things to be said about this, but before we get into any of that, it’s very important to remember that there’s a ton of time between now and signing day and there’s plenty of time for things to change. Still, with that in mind, it’s refreshing and encouraging to see the Red Raiders outrecruiting teams like Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, and Miami.
If McGuire can continue to build solid rosters moving forward, the Red Raiders should have the talent necessary to consistently compete with those sorts of programs year in and year out. And that would keep the Red Raiders competing at the highest level of college football.
