Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red RAiders are getting closer and closer to sealing up a spot in the College Football Playoff. Texas Tech has already managed to lock up its spot in the Big 12 championship game, where the Red Raiders will get a shot at competing with the BYU Cougars once more.

The winner of that matchup is sure to move on and compete in the College Football Playoff. The loser’s fate is a bit more complicated. So, you know, it’d be nice if Texas Tech was able to go ahead and just win that game to make it easier to figure out what will happen going forward.

And to help get a glimpse of what might happen, Bryan Fischer, over at Sports Illustrated, put together some College Football Playoff projections for us to take a look at and talk about.

College Football Playoff projections, Week 15: Texas Tech Red Raiders set at No. 4 seed according to Sports Illustrated CFP projection

In Fischer’s College Football Playoff projection as we enter week 15, Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders are presented with the No. 4 seed. The Sports Illustrated college football analyst places Texas Tech behind the likes of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, and Indiana Hoosiers (in that order), but the Red Raiders still get a bye in the first round.

With the No. 4 seed in Fischer’s College Football Playoff projections, Texas Tech would get the chance to meet up with the winner of the first round game between the No. 12 seeded North Texas Mean Green and the No. 5 seeded Oregon Ducks.

Which, I’m on board with the way that stacks up for Texas Tech. I think that could be a lot of fun to keep up with and watch. I imagine it’d be Oregon that would advance right on past the opening round and into the quarterfinals matchup with Texas Tech, but I’d be more than interested in seeing just what Eric Morris and North Texas could do as his time in Denton starts to wind down.
