There’s no doubt that Texas Tech football fans (generally speaking here) are (generally) happy with the way things have gone this offseason. I don’t want to paint with too broad of a brushstroke, but Red Raider fans sure seem to approve of what Joey McGuire and his staff have been able to accomplish this offseason.
And it is certainly worth noting that plenty of others seem pretty impressed with McGuire as well. Such as Brock Osweiler, a former Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback and currently an ESPN college football analyst.
Osweiler certainly seems to appreciate what McGuire has done throughout his career and this specific offseason. During the 2025 Big 12 Media Days, the college football analyst noted that Texas Tech fans have plenty to be excited about right now.
Brock Osweiler has high praise for Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire ahead of 2025 Red Raiders football season
“Yeah, I think there’s so much to be excited about if you’re in Lubbock,” Osweiler said. “If you’re a Texas Tech fan, I mean, I really think it starts with who your head coach is.”
Of course, when talking about McGuire and what he’s accomplished, it’s hard not to go over everything that he’s accomplished in his career, including taking a look all the way back at his high school coaching days.
“Joey McGuire, such a special person,” Osweiler noted. “Obviously he’s had so much success as a high school coach here in Texas.”
Osweiler continued to heap plenty of praise towards McGuire, noting that his work has helped prepare the Red Raiders for this coming season.
“You really get the feeling that he’s getting ready to do special things there in Lubbock with the Red Raiders,” Osweiler said.
And that does seem to be a general feeling that many have given the way that McGuire has been recruiting lately and the way the Red Raiders replaced both outgoing coordinators with fascinating young and innovative coaches.
Of course, it certainly helps that there’s been such a strong push of funding for the Red Raiders from some very notable boosters. That makes things easier for McGuire and his staff. And all of that deserves a bit of acknowledgement as well. But, it's also worth taking a look at McGuire and noting that this year certainly has the potential to be exciting.
