The Texas Tech Red Raiders are known for having a fun offense. It’s something that is baked into the brand of the Texas Tech football team at this point and it’s absolutely no secret that the Red Raiders are able to thank Mike Leach and everyone who bought into his Air Raid offense for that sort of development.

This isn’t a secret. It’s not something that we have to dance around. Texas Tech has a reputation of a team that likes to score points and get into shootouts and make teams earn their win by trying to consistently place points on the scoreboard at a frantic pace.

And so, it likely won’t shock anyone to see the Red Raiders boasting the highest rated offense in the Big 12, according to Kelley Ford and his preseason offensive unit power ratings.

Overall, Texas Tech is coming in at No. 10, trailing the Miami Hurricanes, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

That is certainly a great group to be included with.

Here’s what the top 30 teams look like:

And here’s how things look for the Red Raiders and the rest of the folks in the Big 12:

  1. Texas Tech Red Raiders at No. 10
  2. Kansas State Wildcats at No. 16
  3. TCU Horned Frogs at No. 20
  4. Baylor Bears at No. 21
  5. Arizona State at No. 22
  6. Kansas Jayhawks at No. 28
  7. BYU Cougars at No. 30
  8. Iowa State Cyclones at No. 33
  9. Oklahoma State Cowboys at No. 38
  10. Colorado Buffaloes at No. 43
  11. West Virginia Mountaineers at No. 45
  12. Arizona Wildcats at No. 53
  13. UCF Knights at No. 55
  14. Utah Utes at No. 63
  15. Cincinnati at No. 79
  16. Houston at No. 97

It feels good to see Texas Tech at the top of this list.

It’s also going to be fascinating to see how the Red Raiders offense plays out this season. With a new offensive coordinator (who is young and innovative and dynamic and exciting), we might see this team reach a higher level of offensive success sooner rather than later.
