It’s generally always a good thing to see your team go out, beat a team by 42 points in a shutout win, and to have them jump up a couple spots in the polls.

While the Texas Tech Red Raider win over Oklahoma State isn’t exactly the most important win of the season, it was good to see it happen (especially in the way that it did) and to see that the Red Raiders are up a couple spots in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll top 25 college football rankings.

Right now, the Red Raiders are up two spots, sitting at No. 13 in the latest poll.

Coaches Poll rankings, week 10: Texas Tech earns No. 13 spot after Red Raiders run right past Oklahoma State

And here is how the Coaches Poll is shaping up this week following Texas Tech’s dominant win over the Cowboys:

  • Ohio State Buckeyes
  • Indiana Hoosiers
  • Texas A&M Aggies
  • Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Georgia Bulldogs
  • Oregon Ducks
  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
  • Ole Miss Rebels
  • Miami Hurricanes
  • BYU Cougars
  • Vanderbilt Commodores
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders
  • Tennessee Volunteers
  • Virginia Cavaliers
  • Cincinnati Bearcats
  • Louisville Cardinals
  • Oklahoma Sooners
  • Texas Longhorns
  • Missouri Tigers
  • Michigan Wolverines
  • Houston Cougars
  • Navy Midshipmen
  • Utah Utes
  • Memphis Tigers

McGuire and the Red Raiders aren’t going to have many more chances at securing big wins to jump up in the rankings at this point in the season. Things are starting to wind down a bit for Texas Tech in terms of how many tough games are left on the schedule.

However, if the Red Raiders are able to just continue winning, this whole ranking situation will resolve itself sooner rather than later. And I think it would happen pretty soon because after this weekend’s matchup with Kansas State is arguably the Big 12’s biggest game remaining on the schedule: Texas Tech hosting BYU.

A win over the Cougars would go a long way to improving the way people view this Red Raider team and would do more than enough to show that the road loss to Arizona State was a fluke. But all of that requires Texas Tech to just keep winning.
