For the third time in three games, Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech Red Raiders fell short when facing off against the TCU Horned Frogs. And game three was a mess because this is truly a game that the Red Raiders should have won. The Texas Tech baseball team should have been able to leave Fort Worth without being swept.
And instead, we got to see Texas Tech carry a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning and then drop it. The Horned Frogs managed to score three runs late which allied TCU to complete the three-game sweep of the Red Raiders.
With the loss, Texas Tech is now floundering in the Big 12 standings as the Red Raiders are now 16-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Meanwhile, TCU has improved to 17-10 overall and 5-4 against conference competition.
Texas Tech loses its 8th inning lead to give the TCU Horned Frogs a complete 3-game sweep over the Red Raiders baseball team
It truly is aggravating seeing how close Texas Tech was here. Jackson Burns delivered a really solid performance through six innings of work. He did give up a half-dozen hits, but Burns struck out eight of the 25 batters he faced and only allowed two runs to TCU.
Burns gave Texas Tech a very real chance to go out and get a win out of this frustrating series. Instead, the Red Raiders couldn’t capitalize on that.
With the game tied at 2-2 entering the eighth inning, the Red Raiders managed to jump ahead of TCU with a 4-2 score thanks to some timely hitting.
Unfortunately, the Horned Frogs managed to take advantage of some timely hitting of their own and claimed a 5-4 lead over Texas Tech in the process.
The Red Raiders went quietly in the ninth inning, unable to do any damage with their final at bats. Now Texas Tech returns home to face the ACU Wildcats on Tuesday. Hopefully that’s the perfect chance to get back to winning for the Red Raiders.
