The hunt for talent never stops in the college football world. Even though the recruiting calendar has changed over the years to where most high-profile high school recruits commit during the summer months, some still use the fall as an opportunity to see what universities have to offer.
One standout recruit doing just that is Jaylen Addai, a 5-star wide receiver from Pearland, Texas. The class of 2028 prospect has set up six official visits this fall, and Texas Tech is on his list.
According to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.com, Addai will be at LSU on September 5, Texas on September 12, Texas A&M on September 19, Alabama on October 10, Tech on October 31, and Notre Dame on November 7. In other words, the Red Raiders face about as tough a fight as possible to land Addai's services.
According to 247Sports.com's composite rankings, the 5-foot-11, 165-pounder is the No. 7 player in the nation regardless of position, and the No. 1 player in Texas in his class. In addition to the six schools he will visit, he holds offers from such programs as Miami, Ohio State, Florida, Auburn, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Southern California, among others.

Last season, despite being just a sophomore, Addai hauled in 37 receptions for 779 yards and 14 TDs. Along the way, he averaged a whopping 21.1 yards per catch. Now, Texas Tech will try to make him the latest standout wide receiver recruit to join the Red Raider family.
Texas Tech is building an impressive wide receiver pipeline
If Addai decides to play for Joey McGuire and Co., he will join a crowded and talented wide receiver room. In fact, over the past few years, the Red Raiders have added as much talent at that position as any other.
The run of high-profile wide receiver signings from the high school ranks began in the class of 2024 when Temple, Texas native Micah Hudson became the first 5-star player to ever sign with Texas Tech. Then, in the class of 2025, 4-star Stephenville product Tristan Gentry arrived on campus. He was joined by 3-star wide receiver signees Bryson Jones, Leyton Stone, and Michael Dever.
In the most recent high school class, McGuire and his staff signed 4-star receiver Chase Campbell from Frienship High School in Wolfforth. Interestingly, though, he was one of only two high school receivers to land with Tech in his class.
The 2027 class features current Texas Tech commit Benny Easter Jr., a 4-star prospect from Humble, Texas, and Julian Caldwell, a 4-star pass catcher from Argyle, Texas. In other words, the Red Raiders are loading up on players who can make an impact in the passing game.
Landing Addai would be another huge win in the recruiting ranks because it would give Tech the No. 1 player in Texas for the second recruiting class in a row after winning the sweepstakes for DT Jalen Brewster, the No. 1 player in America in the class of 2027.
There was once a time when Tech fans would have just been impressed to get a visit from Addai and be on the same list as the other suitors still alive in this race. However, given what we've seen from the Red Raiders on the recruiting trail the past three years, it wouldn't be a shock at all to see this 5-star talent decide to call West Texas home.
