Joey McGuire and his Texas Tech Red Raiders football team keep thriving on the recruiting trail. On Thursday, McGuire and the Red Raiders picked up a commitment out of East Texas as S’Vioarean Martin announced his intent to play his college career in Lubbock.
And that’s a solid commitment for McGuire and Texas Tech as Martin can help bolster the secondary for TTU. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound cornerback is a member of the 2026 recruiting class and is a 4-star athlete, according to On3. According to 247 Sports, Martin is a highly rated 3-star cornerback.
Martin’s commitment to play for McGuire and Texas Tech comes a little under a week after he took a trip out to Lubbock to visit the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders were able to get Martin to commit to them over offers from a rather significant chunk of the Big 12. Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Arizona, Baylor, and Houston all offered Martin (and they weren’t alone). SMU, Michigan State, Texas State, and others also made offers to the talented cornerback from Palestine, Texas.

With Martin committed, McGuire and Texas Tech currently have the No. 31 recruiting class in the country according to 247 Sports and the No. 34 recruiting class in the country according to On3.
While that’s not exactly where the Red Raiders want to be, there’s still plenty of time between now and signing day and also McGuire has very recently shown the ability to thrive in the transfer portal to help improve TTU’s roster.
When looking at this recruiting class, it’s interesting to see what McGuire is prioritizing. 12 of the 15 commits are from Texas and 11 of the recruits play either defensive line, linebacker, or defensive back.
