Heading into Week 5, Texas Tech won’t be playing football this week. And it’s not that anything is really, truly wrong out in Lubbock or anything of that sort. It’s that Texas Tech gets to take a rest this weekend ahead of a road trip to the Bayou City to meet up with the Houston Cougars.

After facing the Utes in Week 4, Texas Tech is among the teams at the top of the conference when it comes to scoring offenses (not too many objective folks should be offended or upset by this). The Red Raiders are just some of the best at offense.

And when it comes to the Big 12 this season, it looks like the Texas Tech football program is in a class all its own among peer institutions.

Texas Tech Red Raiders lead Big 12 with the best scoring offense in the conference heading into the bye week

Here are the top five scoring offenses in the Big 12 as Texas Tech gets to rest a bit during Week 5:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 52 points per game
  • BYU Cougars - 43.3 points per game
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 41.7 points per game
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 40.3 points per game
  • UCF Knights - 39.7 points per game

Now, there is technically a chance that another team in the Big 12 could take that spot away from the Red Raiders as Texas Tech doesn’t play this weekend. In theory, it could happen. But I really don’t think it will because of how large a gap Texas Tech has here.

The Red Raiders have an 8.7 point per game advantage over BYU, who is in second place. There’s over 12 points per game difference between the Red Raider offense at No. 1 in the Big 12 and UCF at No. 5 in the conference.
