It never hurts to go out and get four-star talent and Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders recently did just that. SaRod Baker out of DeSoto Texas is helping McGuire and the Texas Tech football team keep the Big 12’s top ranked class as he added his name to the growing list of talented recruits who want to play college football in Lubbock.

Baker ended up committing to Texas Tech on April 27 and joined a 2027 recruiting class that is owning the top spot in the Big 12 according to 247Sports’ rankings.

While McGuire and Texas Tech have been doing better than just about everyone else in the conference without any sort of issue prior to Baker’s commitment, it certainly helps to solidify that lead at the top of the league.

Texas Tech’s 2027 recruiting class keeps rolling as the Red Raiders keep adding 4-star talent thanks to SaRod Baker committing

Here’s what the Big 12 recruiting class rankings look like after Baker’s commitment to play for Texas Tech, according to 247Sports:

  • No. 1: Texas Tech Red Raiders - 8 commits
  • No. 2: Kansas State Wildcats - 11 commits
  • No. 3: Houston Cougars - 7 commits
  • No. 4: West Virginia Mountaineers - 8 commits
  • No. 5: Iowa State Cyclones - 6 commits
  • No. 6: Baylor Bears - 5 commits
  • No. 7: Arizona State - 5 commits
  • No. 8: Cincinnati - 5 commits
  • No. 9: Colorado - 3 commits
  • No. 10: BYU - 3 commits
  • No. 11: Arizona - 3 commits
  • No. 12: Utah - 3 commits
  • Tied No. 13: Kansas - 2 commits
  • Tied No. 13: TCU - 2 commits
  • No. 15: Oklahoma State - 1 commit
  • N/A: UCF Knights - 0 commits

Again, it never hurts to get a highly ranked recruit to help add a cushion to where your class sits versus the other teams in your conference. The Red Raiders are sitting at No. 1 thanks to their 162 points while Kansas State’s class sits at No. 2 with 133.4 points and Houston is at No. 3 with 110.09 points. It’s early, but the Red Raiders have managed to put together a recruiting class that will cause problems for the rest of the conference.
