Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are still rolling. There’s been a few bumps in the road over the past couple weeks, but the No. 16 ranked Texas Tech men’s basketball team is still a really, truly impressive team with a ton of potential.

The Red Raiders demonstrated that Wednesday evening as they secured a dominant, lopsided, and fun to watch crushing of the Colorado Buffaloes.

The dominant win doesn’t do a ton to test Texas Tech, but it does keep the Red Raiders in the hunt for the Big 12 title (even if it’s getting tougher and tougher for Texas Tech to win that as there are fewer and fewer games left up ahead).

Still, it never hurts to go out and get a 34-point blowout win of a conference opponent ahead of taking a road trip to face off against the top ranked team in the country on Saturday. And that’s the position the Red Raiders are in right now.

No. 16 Texas Tech snags dominant victory over the Colorado Buffaloes as the Red Raiders get set to face No. 1 Arizona on Saturday

In this matchup with Colorado, the Red Raiders were able to seize control pretty early on while slowing the Buffaloes offense considerably. The Red Raiders held a 39-22 lead over Colorado at halftime and then pulled away significantly in the second half.

This isn’t a matchup that Colorado ever really showed itself as a threat. Texas Tech had complete control of this game. A huge reason for that is the way the Red Raiders held Colorado to 29.1 percent shooting from the field and 24 percent from behind the three point line.

Compare that to the way that Donovan Atwell drained a game-high 20 points and made 6-of-10 from three point range while JT Toppin had a 16-point, 18-rebound double-double and Christian Anderson added 14 more points and seven assists and it’s certainly evident that the Red Raiders were effective on offense!

At 8-3 in conference play, Texas Tech isn’t too far behind the Arizona Wildcats and Houston Cougars, but it’s going to take some significant changes in just a small handful of weeks for the Red Raiders to climb back into the driver’s seat of the Big 12.
