Well, as we head into Week 6, the Red Raiders didn’t see any movement at all in the latest edition of the Coaches Poll. No movement whatsoever. Texas Tech wasn’t penalized for being on a bye, but they weren’t rewarded for the way teams around them struggled and stumbled.
Right now, Texas Tech is sitting at No. 14. That means there are three teams between the Texas Tech football team and sitting in the Top 10. Right now, the Red Raiders are behind the Alabama Crimson Tide, Iowa State Cyclones, and LSU Tigers.
Which, that’s not awful company to keep, but it’d be nice to see Texas Tech get a bit more respect as the season continues.
Coaches Poll college football rankings Top 25 - Week 6: Texas Tech Red Raiders sit at No. 14 after bye week
Here’s what the Coaches Poll looks like after week 5:
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oregon Ducks
- Miami Hurricanes
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Texas Longhorns
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Indiana Hoosiers
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Iowa State Cyclones
- LSU Tigers
- Texas Tech Red Raiders
- Tennessee Vols
- Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
- Vanderbilt Commodores
- Missouri Tigers
- Florida State Seminoles
- Michigan Wolverines
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Illinois Fighting Illini
- BYU Cougars
- Arizona State Sun Devils
- Utah Utes
I know this isn’t the case in the AP Poll, so I want to go ahead and acknowledge it here, but it’s so good to see both the Utah Utes and the Arizona State Sun Devils ranked here. They never should have dropped out of the rankings following their respective losses.
But that’s enough about Big 12 teams in the rankings for now. We can talk more about that in a bit.
For now, let’s look at the top of the rankings here. Because we’ve got some shuffling that took place up top. Oregon and Miami each shuffled up three spots while Ole Miss launched itself up seven and Texas A&M jumped up four.
That’s a lot of movement and much of that happened because Georgia, LSU, and Florida State all lost while a few other teams in the top half of these rankings had bye weeks.
