Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders sure got the 2025 season off to a great start. The Red Raiders had absolutely no issue beating the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions and this is a game that Texas Tech controlled from start to finish.
Texas Tech was able to win this game by a score of 67 to seven. We’re talking about a 60-point win in a game that was interrupted by a halftime weather delay that also led to the second half being cut roughly in half.
And that truly is a fun thing to see. Texas Tech should absolutely be proud of itself here.
Texas Tech gets dominant season opening win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to start 2025 season
Mack Leftwich’s offense was clicking and stayed pretty aggressive all throughout the game. I can get on board with that. We got to witness Texas Tech rack up 67 points and gain over 600 yards in the process. That’s fun. On top of that, the attack was balanced. Texas Tech managed to throw for 314 yards and ran for 294 yards.
That’s a fun way to get a win.
Along with that, the Red Raiders were efficient. Texas Tech managed to convert seven of its eight third downs. Then there’s Behren Morton, who completed 16 of his 18 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns early in the game.
And it wasn’t just offense that had fun. Shiel Wood’s defense did a great job to get the season started as well. We got the chance to see Texas Tech hold Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a grand total of 175 yards. That means that Texas Tech gained over 400 yards MORE than what Arkansas-Pine Bluff was able to pick up.
And sure there’s the whole talent differential thing to talk about here, but that doesn’t mean that what we saw wasn’t impressive.
Texas Tech played well and executed well and I’m very much so looking forward to seeing the Red Raiders get to compete against better competition sooner rather than later.
