It’s never a bad thing to win by 60 or more points. Generally speaking, it’s never a bad thing to score 60 or more points. And it’s definitely not a bad thing to outscore an opponent by *checks notes* 60 or more points in a season opener.

That’s what happened Saturday evening as Joey McGuire and his Texas Tech Red Raiders got the 2025 Texas Tech football season started up with a remarkable 67-7 victory over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions.

In Saturday’s storm-shortened season opener, we got to witness an offense score 67 points (and it was Tech’s offense!) while racking up over 600 yards. On the other side of the ball, the Red Raiders defense actually looked solid. And that seemed like such a foreign concept, but we got to see a Texas Tech defense play good defense.

And it was fun!

The Red Raiders outgained Arkansas-Pine Bluff by well over 400 yards of total offense, diced up the Golden Lions defense by drives from three different quarterbacks, and kept Arkansas-Pine Bluff out of the end zone and off the scoreboard until this game was well out of reach.

This was a good game. And Texas Tech fans are right to celebrate after this one.

Texas Tech fans react to dominant 67-7 Red Raider win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in season opener

Here’s how Texas Tech fans are reacting to this dominant victory from the Red Raiders.

Getting a win is always a good thing. It’s definitely something worth enjoying. And a 67-7 sort of win? Well, that’s a great thing to be able to sit back and enjoy.

Yeah, the defense let me down a bit there. I was really hoping the Red Raiders would continue to just win this one in shutout fashion. And unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

I mean, if that’s the only real thing to complain about in this game, then Shiel Wood and the Red Raiders definitely did a great job all throughout the game. I just would have appreciated a shutout win, you know? That would’ve been fun.

Points! Lot’s of points! And memes! Lot’s of memes!

This is 100 percent fair and accurate. Last year’s season opener was stressful and unnecessary. And I’m very glad that this season’s opening game was a lot of easygoing fun to watch.
