Saturday evening, Texas Tech managed to pick up yet another remarkable talent on the recruiting trail. While in the midst of a rain delay at halftime of what turned out to be an incredibly dominant win against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders got a commitment from 5-star offensive lineman Cooper Hackett out of Oklahoma.

Hackett is a member of the 2027 recruiting class, so it’ll be quite some time before this commitment becomes official in any significant way, but it’s still exciting to see the Red Raiders pick up a commitment from yet another incredible talent.

I’m here for it.

And it seems like plenty of other folks are here for it as well. Specifically Texas Tech fans. They’re very much on board for this one.

Texas Tech Red Raider fans thrilled about new 5-star commit for 2027 recruiting class

Here’s what Texas Tech fans are saying with the new recruiting win.

Texas Tech fans have a lot of pride in how their team is recruiting right now. As they should! There’s a lot to enjoy with the Red Raiders at the moment. And honestly, enjoy the moment. Truly savor it. This is a great time to be a Texas Tech fan and it’ll be fascinating to see how long this moment lasts (or if things continue to improve) under McGuire and with Cody Campbell’s support.

It’s so great to see these recruiting wins for the Red Raiders. On top of seeing Texas Tech having fun on the field, it’s also fun to see McGuire continuing to thrive on the recruiting trail.

It really does seem like the future of this football program is pretty bright.

And yeah, the absolute best part about all of this is the timing of this particular commitment for the Red Raiders. Hackett committing to Texas Tech as the Red Raiders are in the midst of a rain delay in the 2025 season opener? That’s fantastic and fun.

Folks aren’t going to be happy about Texas Tech having this sort of success for one reason or another. But at this point, that doesn’t really matter. As long as the recruits keep committing and ending up in Lubbock (and wins subsequently follow), it truly doesn’t matter.
