Texas Tech fans in rare form on social media following victory over Houston

There is no feeling better than proving the doubters wrong. That is something Texas Tech football fans have reveled in throughout the history of the program.

What was interesting is that many people around the nation were doubting the Red Raiders as they headed into their matchup with No. 22 Houston. Despite the fact that Tech was more than a touchdown favorite, despite the fact that Tech was playing at home, and despite the fact that Tech was the more highly-ranked team, it was trendy for most experts to pick the Cougars to win.

Not only did the Red Raiders prove wrong those who predicted their demise, but they should have covered the spread as well. Had running back Cam Dickey not given himself up instead of scoring a TD on the last drive of the game, Tech would have covered, which would have been even more validating.

Still, the Red Raiders are happy to walk away from Friday night with a 1-0 record in Big 12 play thanks to their 28-26 triumph. That's especially true given that the game started with the home team in a quick 10-0 hole.

After that point, though, Tech controlled much of the game and outscored the Cougars 28-16. That fact will be overlooked by many, though.

What shouldn't be taken for granted is that Tech pulled out a win over the only ranked team it is currently set to face in the regular season. So even if the win came by literally an inch, it proved to be a critical step toward another Big 12 Championship Game birth for head coach Joey McGuire and his team.

As you might expect given the way the game unfolded, fans around the nation, whether they were rooting for or against the Red Raiders, went on a social media roller coaster as the events in Lubbock played out. Fortunately, it was Texas Tech fans who got the last laugh, and after the game, Red Raider nation was at its snarky best on X.
