Texas Tech’s road trip to face off against the Arizona State Sun Devils sure didn’t go according to plan for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders. Without Behren Morton as the starting quarterback, and with a truly perplexing offensive game plan, the Red Raiders came up short on the road vs. Arizona State.
Texas Tech’s offense gained just 276 yards of total offense, had a majestic total of 109 rushing yards, and simply couldn’t move the ball through the air, to the tune of 167 passing yards on a 58 percent completion percentage.
That’s just not going to deliver a win on a lot of occasions.
And it didn’t really help that the Red Raider defense really wasn’t all that remarkable in this game. Arizona State gained a grand total of 394 yards of offense, which isn’t the most impressive amount ever, but it seemed like the Sun Devils were able to convert on crucial downs whenever they needed to.
Texas Tech fans react as the Red Raiders fell short on the road against the Arizona State Sun Devils
Texas Tech fans are absolutely right to be incensed by the way this game has gone for their favorite team. This is a complete and total failure on the part of the Red Raiders, but especially on the offensive side of the ball.
I know it’s hard to comprehend but once you have a top conference running-back, it’s generally a best practice to get him the ball as much as possible 🙂

Mack Leftwich needs to give his QB more to work with. Conservative play calling blew it.

It’s worth noting that the season isn’t over yet. And some folks are still looking on the bright side of it all.
Let’s be honest we weren’t going undefeated. We can still win the Big 12 and go to the CFP. The sky isn’t falling yet. I don’t blame the players. This is on the coaches especially the offensive play calling.

Glad we fought back and made it a game. Let's have our coaches stop talking about crowd noise or crowd behavior and get back to focusing on the football. This team is still going places!

The Red Raiders probably do need to pivot back to Behren Morton, if he’s healthy. Otherwise, something definitely has to give with the way the offense is established. It feels like coaching malpractice to have a redshirt freshman quarterback on the road and to only hand the ball off to some of the Big 12's most dynamic running backs a total of 12 times.
That’s an issue.
Hopefully with Behren back at the helm.

I'm convinced kittley left his playbook in the office and Leftwich said yep that'll play

The Red Raiders fall to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in Big 12 play. Which, you know, isn’t great. Texas Tech absolutely has to find a way to bounce back next week as they return to Lubbock and face off against *checks notes* Oklahoma State. Well, uh, that game shouldn’t be too difficult. But let’s not take anything for granted at this point.
