There is no question that Texas Tech football fans have sky-high expectations for the 2025 season. After all, the program has spent a fortune to bring the nation's top-rated transfer class to Lubbock in hopes of finally capturing its first conference title since 1994. However, the key to this fall's success could be the health of starting QB Behren Morton. Fortunately, it appears he is well on his way to being 100% by the start of camp after offseason shoulder surgery.

Tuesday on X, Morton posted a video in which he is not only throwing a football again, but he is doing so with some zip. In the clip, he stands flat-footed and wings the ball 15 yards down the field on a line with little effort.

Morton wrote in the post, "Feels good getting back slingin it!". While it has to be exciting for the senior to be back to throwing the ball after months of rehab, the sight of him doing so should also help ease concerns among the fan base.

Morton had surgery on his throwing shoulder in early December, just after the conclusion of Texas Tech's regular season. It was a procedure done to finally fix a sprain that limited him as a passer for most of the past two seasons.

The operation was no minor undertaking either. When it was completed, fans didn't like hearing that Morton would not only miss all of the spring but that he wouldn't be back to throwing without limitations until close to fall camp.

Given that Morton has been hampered by injuries throughout his Texas Tech career, many fans wondered if the program should consider going with another starting QB in 2025. That was a take shared by many national observers as well, and a reason why Texas Tech was rumored to have interest in high-profile transfers Carson Beck and Nico Iamaleava this offseason.

Though there was never any substance to the rumors that the Red Raiders were looking at adding Beck or Iamaleava (or any other starting QB this offseason), the truth is that Morton's uncertain status left many outside the program wondering if he will be physically ready to lead his team to the type of season everyone in Raiderland is envisioning this fall.

While one short clip of Morton throwing a 15-yard pass is not proof that he's going to be a full-go come early August, the fact that he's whipping the ball around and posting that he feels good about it is an encouraging update.

We've yet to see what a fully healthy Behren Morton looks like over the course of a full season. The hope is that we will have a chance to do so this year. If that happens and he proves to be what many Red Raiders have thought he could be all along, then the program's biggest question mark might become a strength in September.
