One of the greatest things about college football is the collective identity that fanbases take. There’s a unifying element to sports (they are one of the best storytelling mediums in all of the universe because of this) and it’s so easy for fanbases to embrace a somewhat healthy tribalism among all of their members.
Teams know this. It’s one reason they lean into branding, promoting specific messaging, embracing certain slogans and cultural elements. It’s all fantastic and bizarre and can be a ton of fun to sit back and examine.
It’s why you’ll see folks wearing essentially the same thing to their favorite team’s college football games, even if they aren’t in a uniform on the sideline.
And not to get too philosophical about why I love all of that, let’s pivot a little bit to what this means for the Texas Tech fans. Because during the 2025 Texas Tech football teams, the Red Raiders have made it easy for you to figure out what you need to wear to the first four home games of the season.
Back to that somewhat healthy tribalism. The Red Raiders have a uniform and you, friend, will also have a uniform. Kinda.
Texas Tech asks Red Raider fans to wear specific colors for first four home games of the 2025 season
To start the season, when the Red Raiders kick things off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Texas Tech is asking for fans to wear red. That seems easy enough. Get some red. Wear it to support the Red Raiders. The logic fits.
When Kent State comes to town, Texas Tech is asking for Red Raiders fans to wear white. Why white? Well, it’s part of Texas Tech’s annual Agriculture Game. So, against Kent State, show up wearing white, please.
The Oregon State Beavers will come to town after that and Texas Tech is asking for some fans to wear white and other fans to wear red. We’re splitting the stadium in half on this one. On the east side and in the student section, Texas Tech fans are asked to wear white. Over on the west side of the stadium, we’re wearing red.
And then there’s Kansas. Homecoming. The Jayhawks. What will Texas Tech fans wear for this one? Well, red again.
There’s a very good chance you will wear red through the first few home games of the year.
