The Micah Hudson saga at Texas Tech continues to fascinate Red Raider fans. Wednesday, it took another turn, albeit an expected one.
After it was widely reported in January (and confirmed in March) that the former 5-star wide receiver who signed with Texas Tech out of high school only to transfer to Texas A&M after his first season in Lubbock had stepped away from the program in College State, it was only a matter of time until he entered the portal once again. Now, that move has become official according to multiple sources on social media.
The question that still must be answered, though, is whether or not a return to Texas Tech is in his future. That's what everyone in Scarlet and Black has been wondering for months.
Micah Hudson has entered the transfer portal.

On one hand, Hudson hasn't yet proven to be worth the fuss. After all, in his first season as a collegiate, he underwhelmed, catching only eight passes for 123 yards and no TDs.
Hudson was buried on the depth chart in 2024 behind Tech's second-leading receiver, Caleb Douglaswho caught 60 passes for 877 yards and six touchdowns in his first season with the program after transferring in from Florida. As a second-teamer, Hudson appeared only sparingly as part of Texas Tech's five-wide package or in garbage time of games that were out of hand.
Therefore, the drama-to-production ratio has not been favorable. But on the other hand, one can understand why most Texas Tech fans don't want to give up on Hudson just yet.
After all, there have not been many 5-star players to ever sign with the Red Raiders. In fact, according to 247Sports, Hudson is the only 5-star recruit to join Texas Tech straight out of high school.
Therefore, the fact that Tech lost such a blue-chip player after just one season was a blow to many Red Raiders' pride. Additionally, the fact that he left for A&M only served to pour salt in that wound.
However, many Red Raiders took joy in seeing Hudson quickly remove himself from the Aggies' program. That may be a slippery slope, though, because that decision might have been an indication that the young man was going through some turmoil as he tries to adjust to life as a high-profile college athlete, and we should never revel in anyone's struggles (if in fact that was what Hudson was dealing with).
Almost as soon as Hudson reportedly parted ways with A&M, rumors began to surface that he might want to come back to Texas Tech. Some have even said that he has been spotted on campus in Lubbock this spring.
While those reports and sightings can't be confirmed, what is undeniable is that there is a desire among a vast swath of the Red Raider fandom to see Hudson back where he started his college football career. However, there has been no indication from the player or the Texas Tech coaching staff that a reunion is in the works.
Still, just the fact that Hudson is back in the portal is enough to work many Red Raiders into a lather. Now, we will wait to see if he does indeed want to come back into the fold and if Joey McGuire and Co. can work out a scenario in which that makes sense for the good of the program.
