Generally speaking, I tend to think that it’s a good thing to have a team so talented that you’re placing a dozen players on various different preseason all-conference teams according to one of the most recognized analysts in college football.

And that’s the case for Joey McGuire’s Texas Tech Red Raiders heading into the 2025 college football season. We’ve got a dozen Red Raiders who are being recognized by Phil Steele ahead of the 2025 Texas Tech season.

12 different Texas Tech players found their way onto Steele’s preseason 2025 All-Big 12 teams. And a shocking amount of them are on the defensive side of the ball! That’s something to celebrate and enjoy, folks!

And here is how Texas Tech fans are reacting to the news that the Red Raiders had 12 players end up on these 2025 preseason lists:

Generally, folks sure seem to enjoy seeing the Red Raiders in this sort of position. It’s great to see Texas Tech viewed in a different light than the way the Red Raiders have been looked at historically. It’s fun to see this team have a ton of potential and for fans to also enjoy watching this team have that potential.

And still, with all of the celebrations that we can have, there are some nits that we can pick. Like why Behren Morton wasn’t listed on any of these lists, for example.

The season can’t get here soon enough. This Texas Tech team might truly be special and we definitely need to see what the Red Raiders are capable of this season. Because if they live up to this sort of potential, then we’re talking about a really fun year for Red Raider fans.
