One of the best recruits in the 2027 recruiting cycle might be arriving in Lubbock a bit sooner than expected. LaDamion Guyton, the top recruit for the 2027 class and a Texas Tech commit, has reclassified and is now a member of Texas Tech’s 2026 recruiting class.

Guyton is from Georgia and has very clearly drawn plenty of very significant interest from prominent programs in the South like the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, South Carolina Gamecocks. But then there’s also the national recruiting push from teams like the USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, Miami Hurricanes, and such.

And right now, it looks like Guyton is going to be joining the Red Raiders. Things can obviously change, but he’s committed to Texas Tech at the moment and that cements the Red Raiders as having the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the Big 12 for 2026.

Which, you know, that feels pretty good!

And of course, this news is huge for the Red Raiders (and Texas Tech fans are certainly over the moon about this).

But Texas Tech fans aren’t the only ones commenting on the news. It looks like some college football recruiting media members are also weighing in on this, pointing out just how good this is for Texas Tech and the future that the Red Raiders are trying to build out in Lubbock.

It is absolutely important to remember the fact that Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders are going toe-to-toe with college football blue bloods as they try to pursue and secure commitments from these five stars. And so far, it seems to be working.

Texas Tech fans should absolutely be thrilled with this news and with the way that McGuire and company are able to really invest in the process of developing a great recruiting class. It’s going to be absolutely fascinating if this can continue on a regular basis and if Texas Tech can also continue to bolster its high school recruiting efforts with a top tier transfer portal class once again.
