One of my favorite things about top 25 rankings is the occasional, eventful, and chaotic tie that happens between teams that represent institutions and fanbases that really don’t seem to like each other all that much.

It seems to happen more than I tend to expect (but not as often as it should, in my opinion) and I think the latest and greatest example of this is seeing the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Longhorns splitting the No. 1 spot in the preseason top 25 rankings from the ESPN.com/USA Softball NCAA softball poll.

Even with the ranking feeling a little odd given that the Red Raiders are having to share the top spot with an in-state rival in the form of the Texas Longhorns, it feels really good to see the Texas Tech softball team get a No. 1 ranking to start the season.

With the Red Raiders and Longhorns sharing the honor of being the top ranked team in the country according to the voters on the ESPN.com/USA Softball preseason college softball poll, let’s check in and see what Texas Tech softball fans are thinking about the ranking.

Would you look at that? Folks aren’t upset! At least Texas Tech fans aren’t. I think they’re just happy to see the Red Raiders get some respect heading into the season.

Texas Tech fans don’t seem worked up about this one at all. But you know who is a little bit upset about the ranking? That’d be UT fans. They’re not amused.

Anyways, it’s clear that Texas Tech is no longer having to chase after respect, the Red Raiders have arrived as one of the most impressive teams in the country. They’ll need to sustain that and they’ll need to prove that they can win a national title, but things are trending up for the Texas Tech softball program in such exciting ways.
