The landscape in which college athletics live is changing. And it’s changing rapidly. Following the recent NCAA settlement, revenue sharing is now on the table for college athletics departments all across the country. Money is about to start moving around directly from universities to athletes.
And that is including the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who shared a statement on the future of college athletics, TTU’s place in that, and how the Red Raiders are moving forward to support athletes while also still advancing university goals in the process.
According to Texas Tech’s statement, the Red Raiders intend to be a leader in this space. Innovative changes are coming in Lubbock, including the overall structure in which Texas Tech’s leadership administers the funds for sharing.
“As we transition to a new model, know that we are ready," Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech’s AD said, said in TTU’s press release. "Over the past year, we have studied various impacts of the House settlement on our department and have been ready for this new era in college athletics. Texas Tech will continue to be a leader nationally in this era.”
Texas Tech fans show support for Red Raiders’ revenue sharing plans
There are plenty of changes that will be coming (both for Texas Tech and also for college athletics as a whole. It looks like the Red Raiders are making some fascinating decisions for how they’ll approach these changes:

There’s a lot of oil money out in West Texas. There are plenty of Texas Tech fans who are committed to seeing the Red Raiders thrive. And right now, it seems like the university is well positioned to be able to approach this new era of college athletics and move forward in it.
