For the first time this season, the Iowa State Cyclones have been handed a loss in Ames, Iowa. Nobody had been able to go into Hilton Coliseum and find a way to beat Iowa State until Grant McCasland and the TExas Tech Red Raiders did so on Saturday.

And what’s even more impressive is that this is a game that Texas Tech had control over seemingly from start to finish. It wasn’t perfect, but the Red Raiders just handed the No. 4 team in the country a nine-point loss.

This is a significant win. It was on the road. It was over a top 5 team. And it was without JT Toppin. This Texas Tech team looks legit from top to bottom right now.

Texas Tech basketball fans celebrate as the Red Raiders beat No. 4 Iowa State in Ames

Here’s what Texas Tech basketball fans had to say after the Red Raiders managed to beat the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames on Saturday:

Is anyone shocked that the Red Raiders are thrilled right now? For many folks around the country, there was no expectation that Texas Tech would be able to go into Ames, Iowa and do what the Red Raiders did. Given Toppin’s injury and what the Red Raiders lost from him not being available, it’s truly shocking that Texas Tech is competing with and beating such impressive teams like this.

Texas Tech fans should be over the moon with McCasland right now. And it sure seems like they are. What he accomplished in Ames on Saturday should be studied. The fact that Texas Tech didn’t crumble is truly remarkable.

This win shows that Texas Tech has the potential to be a truly great team. It also demonstrates that the Red Raiders didn’t need to rely on JT Toppin to be able to win games even against incredibly tough opponents. I mean, this is incredible.
