To be completely frank, the 2026 Texas Tech football schedule sure looks like it’ll be pretty easy. I mean, there’s clearly a lot that will unfold between now and when the games get started up for Texas Tech in *checks notes* September, but quite frankly, things look pretty easy for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders.
Now, that’s speaking in relative terms. To be fair and clear, we really don’t know what the Houston Cougars or Oklahoma State Cowboys will look like this season. But, again, being fair and clear, there’s not many real hurdles or difficult games on the 2026 Texas Tech football schedule.
Which, you know, I’m not going to complain about. The Red Raiders have a manageable path to get back to the Big 12 Championship Game and Texas Tech’s path to the College Football Playoff is pretty clear.

Texas Tech football fans react as the Red Raiders’ really easy 2026 football schedule has been released
There are plenty of college football fans who are ready to see the Red Raiders challenge themselves a bit more in the out of conference portion of the schedule. Turns out, there are indeed Texas Tech fans in that camp as well. And I can’t blame them, this schedule is pretty straightforward and simple.
Need to improve the non con going forward

The haters will tell you this is the easiest schedule ever………and the haters are right. Time to plan our trip to Arlington in December https://t.co/mDYnxnrseh

Of course, Texas Tech’s newest starting quarterback seems pleased with the schedule, so maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world.

Truly, the Red Raiders should be able to just stroll through this schedule without too many issues. Go ahead and start preparing for a return trip to the Big 12 championship game because Texas Tech has the type of team that should be able to make it right back to Arlington to try to win the conference title yet again this season.

After a really solid run this past season (that helped to set a completely different standard for Texas Tech football), McGuire and the Red Raider football team are set up nicely for a good run and a lot of success in 2026.
But if Texas Tech stumbles at any point next season, or if things end in a similarly messy and disappointing fashion as they did this season in the Orange Bowl against the Oregon Ducks, then Red Raider fans are certainly going to be disappointed and frustrated with a program that has newfound potential and needs to find a way to realize that.
