Texas Tech football alums make jaw-dropping catches in NFL preseason games

Former Texas Tech wide receivers Reggie Virgil and Caleb Douglas have opened eyes in the NFL preseason by making unreal receptions that have social media going crazy.

While we wait for the start of the Texas Tech football season, Red Raider fans are keeping an eye on the NFL preseason games to see how the program's alums are performing. Fortunately, a pair of rookie wide receivers who played in Lubbock last season are turning heads thanks to some amazing receptions that have set social media on fire.

Thursday night, Reggie Virgil hauled in a one-handed over-the-shoulder catch for the Arizona Cardinals as they took on the Las Vegas Raiders. On the play, Virgil had a defender draped all over him, but that didn't stop him from making the stellar grab.

That was one of two receptions the 5th-round pick made on the night, totaling 43 yards. Those plays were part of a 27-14 victory for Arizona.

That was the second preseason game Arizona has played, as a week ago, they opened the NFL slate by taking on the Carolina Panthers in the Hall of Fame Game. That night, Virgil was even more productive with a team-high five catches for 66 yards in the Cardinals' 33-30 loss.

Meanwhile, on Friday night, Caleb Douglas had an even more unreal catch for the Miami Dolphins. Facing the Washington Commanders, Douglas somehow made a juggling one-handed snag while falling to the ground and being harassed so heavily by a defender that he drew a pass interference penalty. The play went for 28 yards and opened eyes around the league.

That was Douglas' only catch in the game as the Dolphins lost 20-7. It was the first preseason game for the former Red Raider, who spent two years in Lubbock after transferring over from Florida.

Last season, Virgil and Douglas were the two top receivers for the Red Raiders. Douglas led Tech with 846 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Virgil led the team with 57 receptions, three more than Douglas totaled.

Now, that duo is trying to make their mark in the NFL with a pair of teams in desperate need of offensive playmakers. Fortunately, both are off to a great start thanks in large part to some amazing preseason plays.
