Texas Tech's dynamic recruiting duo is at it again. Head coach Joey McGuire and General Manager James Blanchard have proven to be arguably the best recruiting tandem in the nation, and on Tuesday, they reeled in another big catch.
Austin Attalah, a 5-star offensive tackle from Orange, California, has announced his commitment to the Red Raiders. To land this prized recruit, Texas Tech had to fend off some of the biggest brands in the sport.
Attalah had recently narrowed his final three schools to Tech, Texas, and Southern California. What's more, he had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, and Notre Dame.
According to 247Sports.com's composite rankings, Attalah is the No. 27 overall player and No. 3 offensive tackle in the class of 2028. Additionally, he's the No. 1 player in California.
The newest Red Raider commit has a great frame to build on. Though he's just a sophomore in high school, he's already 6-foot-7 and 270 pounds. That's a prototypical frame for a college tackle.

Texas Tech recruiting isn't slowing down anytime soon
Those who thought Texas Tech's success on the recruiting trail was just a blip on the radar are quickly finding out that the machine McGuire has built is still running at full speed. This is just the latest 5-star recruit to join the program in the past few years, something that was once unthinkable for Red Raider fans.
In the class of 2024, the 5-star parade to Lubbock began with wide receiver Micah Hudson. He was the leader of the No. 26 overall recruiting class in America.
The 2026 class saw the Red Raiders add 5-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo and 5-star edge rusher LaDamion Guyton. That class finished ranked No. 13 in America.
Currently, Tech's 2027 class features two more 5-star defensive linemen. The nation's top overall player, defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, and edge rusher Anthony Sweeney are set to sign with the Red Raiders in December as part of a class that ranks No. 9 in the country.
Now, the 2028 class is being led by its first 5-star bellcow in Attalah. He's the second player in the 2028 recruiting cycle to commit to the Red Raiders, but the way McGuire and Blanchard are going, he probably won't be the last 5-star recruit who decides to call Lubbock home.
