There isn’t a ton of history between the Texas Tech Red Raider football team and the Iowa State Cyclones. There’s just not many meetings for us to talk about here. Historically speaking, this series is pretty young. All that said though, relatively speaking, Texas Tech has a pretty decent advantage over Iowa State in this series.

I know we’re not talking about a longtime rivalry that has been full of regular meetings that have gone back and forth between these two programs, but we are talking about a series in which Texas Tech has managed to win six more games than it has lost.

And while that doesn’t sound like a lot, we’re talking about Texas Tech winning essentially two thirds of the matchups against Iowa State. That, my friends, should certainly qualify as a decent lead for the Red Raiders when it comes to this series against the Cyclones.

Texas Tech football history: The Red Raiders have a decent lead and some decent history against Iowa State

There won’t be a meeting between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Iowa State Cyclones in 2025, which is a little bit of a bummer given that TTU has managed to quietly build a three game winning streak against Iowa State. In the three matchups from 2021 through 2024, Texas Tech has secured a 41-38 win, a 14-10 win, and a 23-22 win.

Three very different types of wins. Three very close games. Three wins for Texas Tech. That’s what matters at the end of the day.

Especially when, prior to that three game winning streak, Texas Tech had lost five in a row against Iowa State (with several of those games being incredibly lopsided, such as a 66-10 beatdown back in 2016 that nobody really wants to remember).

All in all, this is a series that has been very streaky for the Red Raiders and the Cyclones. In the last 10 games, the series is perfectly split, 5-5. Since both teams have been members of the Big 12, we’ve seen a 12-8 record in Texas Tech’s favor.
