Look, it’s safe to say that the Texas Tech football team hasn’t had any fun when facing the Kansas State Wildcats throughout much of the past decade or so. In a series that was once a fairly evenly matched sort of set up, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have really been overmatched by the Kansas State Wildcats in recent history.
I mean, it just hasn’t mattered where the game was played, when it’s been played during the season whether it’s early on or in the middle or late in the year. Kansas State just routinely has found ways to beat up on Texas Tech in every single meeting since 2015.
Which, you know, not great! Not great. Not at all something that Texas Tech football fans have enjoyed. We’ve seen some lopsided losses in that timeframe, we’ve seen some close losses in that timeframe. But all of them have resulted in losses.
Texas Tech football history: Kansas State hasn’t had any issues with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in recent history
2015 was the last time that Texas Tech managed to upend K-State with a 59-44 shootout victory at home in Lubbock. Since then, there’s been eight straight losses for the Red Raiders at the hands (paws?) of the Wildcats (I think that probably should be paws, not hands, Wildcats don’t have hands).
Okay, but what about before that?
Well, the Red Raiders haven’t won back to back games in this series since 2008 and 2009. They lost the four meetings between TTU and Kansas State from 2011 through 2014. Which means, dating back to 2011, Texas Tech has just ONE win against the Wildcats.
Prior to that?
Well, that’s when the Red Raiders had some fun. In 2009, TTU beat Kansas State 66-14. That was probably pretty enjoyable for Texas Tech fans in Lubbock on that day. The year prior, in 2008, the Red Raiders got a 58-28 win in Manhattan.
This is a series that Tech really controlled through its first 10 meetings as the Red Raiders won eight of the first 10 games against Kansas State. Since then? Well, yeah, not fun. Not great. Not something to brag about for the Red Raiders.
Will Texas Tech be able to snap the losing streak against Kansas State this season and start to get this series a bit closer to evenly matched? Here’s to hoping.
