One aspect of the college football season that seems to entertain fans quite a bit is their team's weekly uniform reveal. For most teams, showcasing their fit for the upcoming game has become a big moment on social media. Texas Tech is no different.
Thursday, the Red Raiders showcased their week-one look, and fittingly, it is a classic, traditional uniform combination. Now that the athletic department has gone back to the flat Double T logo, it only made sense for the first game to feature the standard Texas Tech look of black helmets, red jerseys, and black pants.
What's more, fans likely noticed that the adidas logo that was on the left shoulder last season has been replaced by the Patrick Mahomes II "Gladiator" logo. However, what has most people around Raiderland talking is what they didn't see on the red jerseys.

On the right shoulder is the old Big 12 logo. That was surprising given that most people were dreading the sight of the new Big 12/Monster Energy hybrid logo.
We have already seen that logo on various Big 12 football fields and basketball courts thanks to photos on team social media sites. However, the sight of it on the football jerseys will be a jarring reminder of just how awful the conference's deal with Monster is.
Texas Tech fans will have to get used to this new reality
So why isn't the Big 12/Monster Energy logo on the Tech jerseys in the uniform reveal video? Does it mean that those patches won't be on the Red Raider uniforms? Unfortunately not.
What's most likely going on is that the Red Raiders either shot this preview video before the deal with Monster was in place or before they had time to swap out the old Big 12 patch with the new one. Either way, it will be a shock if the new patch isn't on the jerseys come Saturday night.
After all, Colorado had the new patch on its jerseys Thursday night when the Buffalos played Georgia Tech. So too did Utah when the Utes hosted Idaho.
Therefore, we should wrap our heads around the idea of seeing the out-of-place green Monster Energy Logo on the Red Raiders' uniforms. That's an unfortunate reality of the league's new deal with the energy drink company, a deal that most fans hate.
Back in July, the league announced a deal with Monster to be the "entitlement partner" for the leage. That deal was later reported to be for just $20 million per season meaning each school will get only $1.25 million for having to promote Monster on their jerseys and their fields and courts.
That didn't sit well with fans who felt it made the conference appear desperate for revenue by taking so little from Monster for such a prominent place in the conference's marketing. However, there is no going back now.
So get ready, Texas Tech fans. We are going to see neon green on the Tech uniforms on Saturday night, even if we didn't see it in Tech's uniform reveal video.
