Seth Doege is among the few Texas Tech QBs to have multiple 4000 yard passing seasons

The 2012 season didn’t provide Texas Tech football fans a ton of things to be overwhelmingly thrilled with. I mean, there was the end of the Tommy Tuberville era out in Lubbock, which that was admittedly a weird situation for everyone involved.

The Red Raiders did win eight games in 2012. That’s not a bad thing. I mean, it’s not the most impressive season ever, but it did show that there is potential for this program to continue to have success as long as the right coach is in place in Lubbock.

One of the coolest things about the 2012 season is the fact that we got to witness Seth Doege become a member of a pretty small club. Throughout the history of Texas Tech football, there just simply aren’t many quarterbacks who have managed to throw for 4000 or more yards in multiple seasons.

With all that he accomplished in helping the Red Raiders keep moving in 2012, Doege surpassed the 4000 yard mark in this season, which happened to be his second season as the starter for the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech football history: Seth Doege’s second 4000 yard passing season should not go overlooked in Red Raider history

Doege joined a club that previously had just Kliff Kingsbury and Graham Harrell in it (Patrick Mahomes has since also become a part of this group for Texas Tech football history).

During the 2012 season, Doege managed to complete 380 of his 541 pass attempts as he threw for 4205 yards and 39 touchdowns. He did also have 16 picks, which is unfortunate, but Doege showed some promise during this season and was one of the few entertaining and bright spots that Texas Tech football fans could enjoy.

He came up just shy of 500 passing yards against the West Virginia Mountaineers in a game that he threw a half dozen touchdowns in.

He also had nine games during which he threw for at least 300 yards against opponents. None of that should get overlooked. Doege wasn’t the greatest Red Raider quarterback ever, but he was a really solid one at a time TTU needed something to be excited about.
