There's no question that the Texas Tech football program is emphasizing one aspect of the roster over all others. The Red Raiders are putting an increased importance on finally fixing the offensive line struggles that have kept their offense from becoming truly elite during head coach Joey McGuire's tenure. Those efforts will continue this weekend as a five-star high school offensive lineman heads to the South Plains for a visit.
According to a post on X by Rivals.com recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, Mansfield, Texas product, Felix Ojo is going to be one of a number of top recruits headed to Lubbock in the next few days to check out what the Red Raiders have to offer. This is a massive development on the recruiting front for a program that needs to improve the talent it is adding along the offensive line.
Make no mistake, Ojo is one of the best high school prospects in the class of 2026. 247Sports' composite rankings list him as the No. 7 overall player in the country, regardless of position, and the No. 3 player in Texas. Additionally, he is the top offensive tackle in America.
Therefore, his list of suitors is long and chock-full of high-profile football programs. Schools that have offered Ojo a scholarship include Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Southern California, Washington, and many more.

Now, the Red Raiders find themselves in the hunt for this elite prospect. Should they find a way to earn his commitment, it could change the future of the program.
There was a time during the Mike Leach era when Texas Tech had dominant offensive line play. But for years, the Red Raiders have struggled to field elite groups at that position group.
In fact, the program has not had an o-lineman selected in the NFL Draft since guard Jack Anderson went to the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. What's more, Tech has never produced either a first or second-round offensive lineman.
Taking it a step further, in the last 20 years, the only Red Raider offensive linemen to be selected in the first three rounds of the draft have been Louis Vasquez (2009) and LeRaven Clark (2016). That needs to change if this program is going to start being a consistent contender for College Football Playoff births.
Ojo will be expected to develop into a top NFL Draft prospect regardless of where he decides to play college football. At 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds entering his senior year of high school, he will need to add some weight to his frame before he's ready to dominate at the FBS level, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Texas Tech has never brought a lineman of this caliber into the program, so if McGuire can land Ojo, it would signal a potential turning point in the Red Raiders' recruiting efforts. To beat out virtually every program in the country that matters will be tough, however, the fact that Ojo is headed to Lubbock this weekend is a huge step in the right direction.
