It’s hard to look at this win over the No. 4 team in the country and really dig into it from a critical way. Yes, there are still areas for improvement and growth and Texas Tech should look to improve and grow, but the Red Raiders just went on the road to Iowa State and beat them.
This win happened without Texas Tech’s leading scorer or rebounder. And Texas Tech just beat the No.4 team in the country by nine points.
There are some questions to be asked, but man, this win was insane.
No. 1: What will the Texas Tech Red Raiders do about this mess of a turnover problem?
To be completely honest, I feel like I’m nitpicking here. I feel like I’m looking at something great and trying to find a problem. Getting a win like this on the road against a team like that? And then to ask questions about it? But still, it’s a question worth asking.
Texas Tech’s turnover margin, in general, isn’t ideal. And the Red Raiders were definitely turnover prone in this game (15 turnovers to Iowa State’s seven) and that allowed Iowa State to get 17 points off turnovers. Ideally, this isn’t something that happens. Theoretically, this could be an issue that haunts Texas Tech at some point or another.
No. 2: How many threes can Donovan Atwell make this season?
This is just flat out amazing. He’s continuing to set the standard for what great three point shooting looks like at Texas Tech (and Christian Anderson isn’t all that far behind him). Atwell has already surpassed the record of the most made threes in a single season and he’s already become the first Red Raider to hit 100 threes in a single season. Now he’s up to 110.
Also, on Anderson’s count, he has also surpassed the previous record and has the second most threes in a single season at 96.
No. 3: What is the ceiling for this Texas Tech team? Can the Red Raiders really do it?
With Atwell and Anderson draining threes and the whole of this team fighting for rebounds and everyone seemingly showing that they can score even against the toughest of opponents while on the road, it seems like Texas Tech’s ceiling might be impossibly high. There’s a ton of potential here. Can the Red Raiders actually fully realize it?
