Going into the last three Big 12 games of the regular season for the Texas Tech softball team (and also the rest of the conference), it’s pretty clear as to just how much better the Red Raiders are from the remainder of the conference.

There’s not another team in this league that has been capable of stringing together as many hits (or anywhere near that number) as what Texas Tech is doing on a very regular basis.

So far this season, Texas Tech has managed to rack up 513 hits as a team. No other team in the Big 12 has gotten past the 500 hit mark yet. Heck, there’s not another team in the conference that has managed to get more than 450 hits this season.

Texas Tech is leading the Big 12 in hits and there’s no other team in the Big 12 capable of keeping up

It truly isn’t close. Texas Tech is ridiculously far ahead of the rest of the Big 12 with just one series remaining in the regular season:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 513 hits in 52 games
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 446 hits in 51 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 427 hits in 49 games
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 426 hits in 51 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 426 hits in 47 games
  • Utah Utes - 409 hits in 52 games
  • UCF Knights - 408 hits in 51 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 384 hits in 47 games
  • Baylor Bears - 374 hits in 51 games
  • Houston Cougars - 373 hits in 51 games
  • BYU Cougars - 331 hits in 47 games

In this weekend’s series between the Red Raiders and the Baylor Bears softball team, things aren’t exactly all that comparable in this matchup. The Red Raiders have 139 more hits on the season than Baylor does. While Texas Tech is averaging 9.9 hits per game, the Bears are getting just 7.3 hits per game. That’s a fairly sizable gap.
